Дмйтрий  Константйнович  Кантевйр (Dimitrie Konstantinovich Kantemir) was the son of a Moldaian Voivode (similar to a castelan, except that a Voivode might be the top military commander of a pallisaded fortress rather than a "castle"). Indeed, the name Cantemir originates in "Khan Temir" (head of the Tartar hordes in Akkerman, Budjak, and Dobruja).

2 Trade between Venice and Genoa allowed transfer of culture with the Ottoman court. Gentile Bellini visited Istanbul, thus the Ottoman court was directly influenced by the development of linear perspective. The Ottoman developments in glassware, ceramics (Iznik), textiles [silk weaving, velvets of Bursa, carpets of Konya, embroideries of Epirus], wood carving, metalware, etc.
